Teaching Experience

Course Instructor - University of Northern Iowa - Spring 2017                            

  • Responsibilities included planning and teaching an eight-week course for undergraduate music education majors. This included lectures, assignments, written quizzes, and playing tests. The course goals were to prepare undergraduate music education majors for their role in instructing beginning through intermediate horn students, as well as maintain school-owned instruments.

Graduate Assistant - University of Northern Iowa - Fall 2015 to Spring 2017

  • Responsibilities included teaching supplemental private horn lessons to undergraduate students, providing performance feedback in studio class, leading horn choir rehearsals in the conductor’s absence, developing a curriculum for middle school participants at UNI Horn Choir Day, adjudicating auditions and contributing to lectures during university-hosted high school music festivals, and providing out-of-class guidance to undergraduate students.

Substitute Teacher - Liberty Public Schools Music Department - Fall 2014 to Spring 2015

  • Responsibilities include utilizing and supplementing pre-constructed lesson plans, advising students during rehearsals when other music educators are present, working with individual students on assignments or contest pieces, rehearsing ensembles when other teachers are absent, and maintaining a focused and healthy classroom environment.

Science Olympiad Adjudicator - Music Challenge - Spring 2013, 2014

  • Responsibilities included evaluating participants on their fulfillment of the challenge/prompt to create a musical instrument capable of playing assigned passages, administering and grading an oral examination surveying comprehension of scientific Principals of sound, and supplementing information deficiencies.   • Responsibilities included registering high school participants and parents upon arrival, advising participants during rehearsals, and performing in a concert with participants. (Supervisor: Dr. Gary Moege)

High School Horn Clinician - University of Central Missouri - Spring 2012, 2013

Responsibilities included rehearsing horn sections for two visiting high school bands, giving feedback on both technical and musical aspects of concert band pieces, and addressing any fundamental deficiencies in musicians’ technique. (Supervisor: Dr. Scott Lubaroff)

  • Responsibilities include preparing and performing music with limited rehearsal time, including paid performances with the Cameron Municipal Band (MO), Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony (IA), Waterloo Municipal Band (IA), Metropolitan Chorale (IA), Wartburg Community Orchestra (IA), Sedalia Symphony Orchestra (MO), William Jewell Symphonic Band (MO). Additional substitute lists include the Des Moines Symphony (IA) and the Liberty Symphony Orchestra (MO). Non-performance tasks include engraving damaged/missing parts for ensembles, judging youth auditions, and acting as a clinician for youth ensembles.

Worship Musician, First Presbyterian Church, Cedar Falls, IA - Fall 2016 to Summer 2018         

  • Responsibilities included rehearsing and performing weekly on a variety of instruments including horn, bass guitar, and hand bells, acting as a section leader in ensemble rehearsals, and arranging sacred melodies for any available instrumentation.

Student Garden Manager, University of Northern Iowa - Summer 2017 to Fall 2017         

  • Responsibilities included planning and maintaining a student-organized garden, filing and fulfilling produce orders to food pantries and university dining centers, instructing and managing volunteer gardeners, coordinating a season-ending harvest festival, and experimenting organic solutions to a variety of garden problems through coordination with the university’s sustainability office.

Graduate Teaching Assistant, University of Northern Iowa - Fall 2015 to Spring 2017

  • Responsibilities included communicating company rental policies to customers, traveling to rental displays at various area schools, aiding customers during busy hours in-store, managing inventory and alerting store manager to shortages, filing claims for instrument repair, and supplementing a variety of staff deficiencies.
