Casey grew up in Liberty, MO, just north of Kansas City. After starting horn in 6th grade, he also spent time taking guitar and bass lessons. Through high school he took horn lessons from Shelley Peters - horn professor at William Jewell College - made the KC Metro All-District Band from 2008-10, and also made 6th and 3rd-chair horn in the Missouri All-State Band in 2009 and 2010, respectively.

From 2010 to 2014, Casey attended the University of Central Missouri (UCM) where he studied horn with Dr. Gary Moege and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Music Performance. He also completed the course requirements for an educational certificate in Emergency Management from UCM.

After a year of work and further study in Kansas City, he pursued a Master of Music under the tutelage of Dr. Yu-Ting (Tina) Su at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) from 2015 to 2017. During his final semester at UNI he performed first horn in UNI’s production of Engelbert Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, and second horn on Carl Heinrich Hübler’s Konzerstück für vier Hörner accompanied by the UNI Wind Ensemble. Since then he has worked primarily as a freelance musician in the Kansas City area.

As of August 2024, Casey is pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree and working as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Kansas School of Music.

In addition to playing horn in classical ensembles, Casey worked as a worship musician in Iowa playing bass guitar in bluegrass and gospel groups as well as handbells.
